This summer school took place in camping Rovies in North Euboea. The participants had a pleasant time in camping where they discussed issues which are not analyzed in details in normal course of studies. In mornings the participants discussed the session of posters and they were hanging together at coffee, beach or lunch and in the evenings, there was the sessions of lectures in the following issues:

This workshop discusses the energy mix and the feasibility of Renewable Energy (RE) installations. In addition, analyzes the impact of RE installations in landscape aesthetics. Related digital tools, which can minimize the negative effect of landscape transformation by RE are also presented. In conclusion, this workshop highlights the significant role or energy installations which are strongly correlated with prosperity. These conclusions are presented in a symbolic sculpture performance entitled: Too many Don Quixotes but only one wind mill

After the previous editions, the Winter School will be focused on the same main topic: the relationship between geometry and structure so called Structural Morphology. The specific focus of this edition is the study of how geometrical shape influences force flows into the structural elements for different applications. With this project, we aim to study methods, strategies and techniques recently developed employed to incrementally change assembly buildings and spaces depending on the influence of the sites strictly correlated to the culture belonging to the design location

Agenda
The webinar will present the progress achieved so far and the challenges of the integration of 3D printing technology into the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry, where the developments and concerns from the Constructors, Design Offices, 3D printing technology and the Academia point of view will be presented together with a session at the end for discussion.
Invited Speakers:
Title: 3D-Printed Masonry
Dr. Philippe Block is a full professor at the Institute of Technology in Architecture at ETH Zurich, where he leads the Block Research Group (BRG) with Dr. Tom Van Mele. Philippe is also Director of the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) in Digital Fabrication. He studied architecture and structural engineering at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Belgium and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, where he earned his PhD in 2009. He applies research into practice on the design, engineering and construction of novel shell structures and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Rössler Prize for most promising young professor from ETH Zürich (2018) and the Berlin Arts Prize 2018 for Baukunst.

Title: 3D printing – Issues and challenges from a construction company’s point of view
Pr. Christian Cremona is currently director for research and development at Bouygues Construction and director of Bridge and Materials Engineering at Bouygues Civil Works. He is also adjunct professor of construction engineering at CentraleSupelec School of Engineering, Paris-Saclay University.
Until 2015, he was director of the Technical Centre for Bridge Engineering (CTOA) at the Technical Direction for Transportation Infrastructures and Materials of CEREMA (ex Sétra). After spending more than 15 years in research in the French Central Laboratory of Roads and Bridges (LCPC, now part of Gustave Eiffel University), he moved to the Direction of Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing where he administrated French and European research activities in the sector of civil engineering and construction.
He wrote or edited 5 books and published more than 200 papers in conferences and peer-reviewed journals.
Title: The opportunities for Metal 3D Printing in Construction
Gijs van der Velden leads MX3D since its foundation in 2015. MX3D is a ScaleUp that earned its badge of honor by 3D printing a 12 meter / 6 ton stainless steel bridge for the city center of Amsterdam. Currently the company supplies 3D printing software and equipment.
Until 2017 Gijs van der Velden also held the general management position at Joris Laarman Studio, the company where the large scale robotic printing technique now used by MX3D was initially developed.
Gijs van der Velden has a master in Dutch and International Law

Title : A Journey of Digital Manufacture at Foster + Partners.
Marina Konstantatou is an Associate within the Specialist Modelling Group (SMG) at Foster + Partners, the practice’s multi-disciplinary research and development group. She has a background in applied mathematics and physics (National Technical University of Athens), after which she specialised in computational design at the Architectural Association, and civil engineering at the University of Cambridge. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, Department of Engineering, on graphic statics. Her academic and industry collaborations over the last years include: ETH Zurich (Chair of structural design), University of Pennsylvania (Weitzman School of Design), and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (structures group). Marina’s interests revolve around the development of theoretical and computational frameworks of geometry-based methods for the design and analysis of materially efficient structures in the context of the built environment. At F+P she specialises in structural design, form-finding, and emergent technologies in architectural geometry. Marina is currently involved in research and development for High Productivity Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (HPWAAM).
